Meganissi has rapidly established itself as a real Simpson Travel favourite, thanks to its signature relaxed pace and authentic charm that have all but disappeared from many of the larger Greek islands. Conscious of the need to protect this delightful landscape, the locals also seem to have perfected the knack of building traditional stone houses with smart contemporary interiors, and Villa Mentes is a fine new example of the style.
The house is one of a trio of villas, each with its own private pool and terrace, overlooking Ambelaki Bay in the north of the island. You can sit here all day long and watch the yachts coming and going in the bay, but the real beauty of this spot is that it’s walking distance from Vathy. The village sits at the head of a deep natural inlet, a magnet for sailing boats in the summer months, and therefore well provided with cafés and tavernas. If you get here at the right time you can get fish straight from the waterside, but if you miss the boat this is still a wonderful spot to people watch and take a lesson from the locals in the art of easy living. Katomeri, with its very traditional architecture and local tavernas is just a couple of minutes away by car, and the pretty beach of Fanari is only a five minute drive.
Villa Mentes sits separately in a small cluster of neighbouring villas that includes Villa Taphian and Villa Akoni, which are identical in style and layout.

An amazing relaxing trip! One of the highlights was the boat trip which took us to all the beautiful islets and beaches - just wonderful! We spent two weeks at the Villa Mentes in Meganissi. It was our second trip here as our one week holiday in 2020 just wasn't enough! The villa is in glorious location overlooking Abelaki Bay with a quick 5 minute walk down into the lovely fishing port of Vathy. We spent most of our days lazing by the pool or at the nearby Fanari Beach with its crystal clear water, comfortable sun loungers and a very convenient beach bar. We completed all of the walks in Guest Book all of which had amazing views at every point. It was great fun walking into Vathy in the evening, having a pre-dinner drink and watching the yachts sail by and then eating at one of the many reasonably priced restaurants. We didn't have a bad meal there. We have booked our holidays through Simpson Travel for many years - enjoying the ease of booking, overall great standard of service and above all, trust that Simpson always choose the best locations in the area. We have already booked our trip for next year.

We have just returned from two weeks on Meganissi which Simpson rearranged for us and extended it by a week while we were there. The local support by Rania Mazi was really great – sorting any little issues out without any fuss as well as extending our stay. Rania arranged our pre-return COVID testing in a very clear organised manner and before we travelled the office support was great – all made simple with clear advice on managing flights and all the COVID administration. We look forward to returning to Meganissi with Simpson in August with family and grandchildren that had to be deferred from last year.

Given that we were due to fly to Chania and the FCO banned all but essential travel to Crete due to Covid-19 at 4.30pm the previous day, getting to Meganissi five days later was a miracle and was solely due to the very considerable efforts of Holly working remotely at home. This was our second visit to the island and it didn't let us down. The transfer was just what we expected – private taxi to the port and a fast, very pleasant and comfortable water taxi to Vathy where Rania and Rebecca were waiting to welcome us. The villa was immaculate and our 2-week stay very restful and enjoyable. Rania was very helpful throughout and couldn't do enough for us. The transfer back to the airport worked like clockwork. Now back in the UK and already booked for next year. A huge thank you to everyone at Simpson who made our holiday so special.

We have had a lovely week. Plenty of (really) hot water for showers after either days out or relaxing days by the pool. Boat trip was amazing – we feel very, very lucky to be joined by a pod of dolphins who entertained us for half–an–hour or more. Even if you are not lucky enough to see dolphins, still do the trip – it’s fun! We loved the Rose Garden for evening meals. Rebecca has been great – booked our boat and also our table at Spartochori for the Greek dancing night. Oh what fun! Food was great too! Driving round the island has been a great challenge – who knows where a one–way system will bring you. Fun, fun, fun! All in all a great holiday. Very relaxing but not without so much laughter. Whoever stays next – just relax, eat and enjoy is as much as we have. Wonderful!

This is such a lovely villa overlooking the beautiful bay. Location wise you couldn’t ask for better. A lovely stroll down the lane brings you into Vathy harbour with the lovely tavernas and the array of boats coming in and out of the harbour. This is such a beautiful spot – so tranquil and an idyllic place to stay. Restaurants were very good. We especially enjoyed the Rose Garden (the others were delightful and the fresh fish was excellent!). A big thank you to Rebecca and the Simpson Travel team for arranging such a great holiday. It’s worth a drive to Fanari beach which is a lovely place to spend a few hours, we went to the Reggae bar. We also drove to some other small beaches which were beautiful. It’s basically impossible not to have an amazing time here – everyone we met has been so friendly, the food has been amazing, the island is beautiful. We’ll miss it!
